Happy Heavenly Birthday Mama

Here is my Facebook post... I just can't say anything more or I will start bawling:

My mom always loved this photo. I think she loved this gift from me and T so much because it had a piece of so many of you. I read it while I was with her this last trip, and the words you shared and the love you showed meant the world to her.


So this birthday, her first heavenly birthday... I'm going to soak up those memories and remember her with a happy heart. There have been some brutal moments and crying that I didn't see coming (like at Hobby Lobby when I saw the Almond Joy on the shelf) but also some great moments in knowing where she is. To wish her back, would be to wish her out of heaven. I'm not sad for you Mama, I know you are living your best life. So on this first birthday without you, I want you to know I will be ok. I will RACK as many people as I can this season in your honor. T and I will do our best to shine as bright as you... and just think, now you never have to miss one of his games. I RACKd people, gave Alleyne money, sent thank you gifts to nurses, had dinner with T in your honor and RACKd my friend Leslie, she doesn't have money right now and she is coming to watch a Hallmark movie with me and I KNEW you would want to feed her. Homeless bags are in the car and candy canes have been bought to share in your honor. I will do my best to make you proud mama.

ENJOY YOUR FIRST BIRTHDAY HUGGING JESUS! I miss you more than I can say and I know this won't ever go away. But you live in my heart, now and forever. Save me a seat...

Goodbye to Uncle Johnny

A 6am call is never "normal" and I knew something was wrong. My poor mama had to call and tell me that her brother, the patriarch of our family... my Uncle John was dying. Brain bleed. 911. Ambulance. Hospital. Aunt Jeanne. Can't go visit. Covid. Ventilator. I heard all of those words. None of them were sinking in. Too surreal. He was fine. Too heartbreaking, my Aunt just lost her sister TOO OVERWHELMING. I CAN'T GO BE WITH MY FAMILY. Then the call came that he was off of life support, and he died. My Uncle John, big burly Uncle Johnny... was gone. My Aunt Jeanne posted on Facebook. So I posted... then Auntie T... And then mom posted... and our hearts broke.  Just broke.   Every time we talk  - we just can't make sense of it. I know in time.. it will sink in.  He will not be there at the airport when I get home next trip. He won't be at Christmas or at the table eating sauce.  He's gone. BUT I WILL REMEMBER. A shocking goodbye... Tracy Norris, there is no other like you

  Tracy is one of my favorite memories of my life in Charleston, my marriage to Rally, and my days learning how to be a woman. I learned how to pray, how to sing and how to be a woman of God. I learned how to be strong in my faith, and loving with my words. I learned how to act. I learned how to be a mom. They gave me a job and I learned all about helping people after disasters... I've always been told I always have a job at Disaster Plus.  I'm sure that's true. That's just who they are. I learned about Jesus.  She is probably the greatest factor in my early stages of my faith walk. Julia Ann, Keating, Tracy and Fred were always in my life.  Miles and miles away but there. Always. Until I opened Facebook to a photo Julia posted and I said "to of my faves"... only to scroll a few moments later and see that Tracy passed away. WHAT?  NO!?
