Thursday we saw Guatemala Corpus Christi (once in a lifetime event for us) and GOTCHA DAY for Madison!

Thursday we were up and at it again! After breakfast our guide gave us the history of Antigua, and Guatemala City.  We came upon a HUGE event in Guatemala City called

Guatemala Corpus Christi

VERY religious and very beautiful. It's their HOLY WEEK!

(news: Bishop Tulio Perez Rivera leads a Catholic procession celebrating Corpus Christi in Antigua, Guatemala, Thursday, May 30, 2024. Corpus Christi celebrates the tradition and belief of the Holy Eucharist, which for Christians represents the body and blood of Jesus Christ.)

Babies all dressed like angels - SO CUTE!!!

floral confetti everywhere!!

The leaders had never seen this in the 22 years of coming. It was amazing!!

They made "carpets" of flowers and pine and made them beautiful for the priests to walk on

Huge parade...

In the tour we went down in some underground caves and that is where they burned the bodies of those with leprosy and malaria and all of the diseases. It was so cool and uber creepy.  So many souls down there!!

Reminded me of bat caves with my dad!  Just minus the dead people

CADA NINO!!!!!!!!!!  It's where we found our girl!  Hi Madison!!!

We played hilarious games

The skit, lots of singing and dancing

and then we were told there were two girls that didn't have sponsors.

The Gards and us fought over one... and then they brought Madison (left) out and we were toast.

The Barbers were in love and we hugged a lot and told her we would be writing to her/them.

We were leaving and their mother was there.  They explained that we would be writing to her daughters and then we all hugged.  This is literally one of the most dangerous areas in all of Guatemala City. I hate that it exists and I hate that these kids are mortal enemies outside of Cada Nina's walls.  Maybe the Lord will choose to change the hearts of those that live in that area.  Maybe not.  We are called to love and do what we can.  Please keep these babies safe and grow them into a people of peace.
