Guatemala 2025 - Day 3 at the Community Outreach Center of Chimaltenango (CCC)
Day 3, you simply cannot prepare for. We delivered beds to four families. These families cleaned and prepared for us to come. Four families that trusted that we loved them, not judge them, and that wanted to do something kind to make a tiny difference in their day to day lives. These are the days my faith is never more stretched. I’m ashamed by the things I concern myself with on a daily basis. I’m sad and angry that such loving people struggle so much. I’m honored that I was once again able to raise enough money to go and experience being the hands and feet of Jesus. THANK YOU. Ronne shared this and I can’t add better words. “Tonight, we talked about how humbling it is to serve – and we talked about how it must feel for the families we will visit tomorrow to open their homes to strangers, how we feel as we want to serve without reservation and help without hurting. We’ll wonder if we have the right words to say. We’ll hope we haven’t overlooked a need in our desire to do what we can to care for the families. We’ll pray we honor the moms who want a better life for their kids.” The playing field is leveled. Mom to Mom… we want our kids to eat, to sleep, to be safe and to be happy. We do not share a common language, or common surroundings but we can hug each other knowing we are giving our best, that we see each other. That we care. It’s easy to look and to feel “better than” we are not. In our abundance we can have complacency, and pride. We may struggle with gluttony, acquiring more, we might be ungrateful or selfish. But there, they have joy in the midst of hunger, pain, abuse, neglect and abandonment. I came to serve… but the people of Guatemala like Kimberly and her family… truly blessed my heart and soul more than anything in America probably will for years to come. They trusted us to come in, see humble lives, hug them, love them. I was terrified that I wasn’t equipped. But the moment I said “passe?” And they said “Si!!!!!” I knew God would go before me. And He did. We offered a bed, they offered everything. Father protect them, provide for them, keep their infectious joy alive!!!!
