Last day of being 16

These pics are from the soccer tournament  this weekend.

I love nothing more than to watch him play...

16 years has gone by in a flash.

So many moments remind me of my high school days... but others...
it feels like we have nothing in common

I hold fast to these memories and these moments.

The ties that bind us.

The things that keep us close and make us "the same"

at 16, it's tough. You want nothing to do with me really, and that's incredibly
FOREIGN to me.

It's always been me...and you!

But, you are fighting back and making a way for yourself in this world.

you are taller than me..
smarter than me...
stronger than me...
faster than me...

But you don't love as fiercely as I do.  Not yet at least.

But some day, you will chase after someone with more drive and conviction than you do that ball.

You will get up early not because you have to, but because you want to.

You will put in the hard work because you love more than you dread

You will be a part of something bigger than yourself.. BUT you will have learned many of these skills on the field

team work
hard work
drive
grit
competitiveness
pride
conviction

all of it...

it all started in my cleats and probably yours too

I hope your love of God comes back.

Back with a vengeance.

Your love of me, our family, of something other than a gaming PC or your phone.

I've allowed something, heck we all have... to steal your heart.

And I want you back.

Who knows, maybe it will start with a kitten.

We both have some changes to make

I will have to lead the charge.

I am so proud of the man you are becoming and it's my job to remind you of who I KNOW you are becoming and will be.

The enemy is after you, but so is God.  Spoiler alert.. God ALWAYS wins.

I love you Tristan. Have 16 and 364 days old.

Tomorrow is a new day... Here comes 17!  Grammy wishes she could be here.

I guess in some ways, she's hanging out with Jesus... cheering from the stars.

I love you.  What a ride it has been!

NOW GET OFF YOUR PHONE AND GO TO SLEEP!  Hahahahahaha
